Came back to edit this round. Was a nine hole round played yesterday, but played the back nine today so combined the two scores into one 18 hole round.
Yesterday:
After a week away from the game, went out for nine after the crowds quieted down. Course extremely wet. No roll at all. Playing long. Very long.
Took a couple holes to find the feeling, but after a GIR from the right deep sunken area on 4th, where it was totally saturated and nearly a pond, made par which jump started the rest of the round. Dropped a birdie bomb on 5th. Approximately 40 footer. Three putt on 18th was the only real screw up.
Thought about playing 18 even though my back was killing me, but there was a back up on the 10th tee and I was in no mood to sit there. Nine was enough, though I did go back out front to practice some specialty shots. Played 1-3 again.
Driver a bit inconsistent, but irons and wedges were good.
Today:
Went off the back after an outing finished up and the course cleared off. Too late to go off the front, which was now taking public play, so thought I'd sneak out ahead of the public that was already out on the front and start on the back, then add today's nine to yesterday's front nine.
Started with no warmup in an effort to get out back before any of those on the front made the turn. So, made a nice easy swing off the tee, and went slightly left. Had a somewhat bare lie in the rough for my first iron swing of the day, and consequently, got it thin. Skulled it up near the green. Made a decent chip, but 2-putted for an opening bogey. On 11th hit a 9i approach from the fairway to 3 feet. Bird.
Another poor lie on 12th for my 2nd shot. Put it in the hazard. Found ball, pulled it out of the hazard, dropped with a penalty and hit 4th just short. Nice chip and 1-putt but still ended in double.
Another very nice 9i approach on 5th, but missed the birdie putt. A third 9i approach on 14th yanked just a touch left, pin high, but two feet into the rough with a short-sided downhill pin. Good mini flop, but ball still rolled down and past pin by 6 feet. Made an excellent comebacker, dead center for an up and down par save.
Driver was not much better than yesterday. Recent thoracic back issues seem to be affecting my driver and 3W swings. Just off a bit. Distance has not been at all near my realistic max. A few good drives, but nothing that made me feel like I hit an awesome drive over the last few rounds.
