Started in light rain. Great drive off 1st. Good par start. Then Matt pulled up when I was on 2nd and we were talking about the round yesterday. Forgot about what was working in my driver and proceeded to pop up my drive off the tee while he sat there. Luckily it cleared the forced carry wetlands, but ended up in the deep rough before reaching the fairway. Should have played an iron, but got greedy again and barely moved it 30 yards closer. This time took an iron from the deep rough and got it to the front of the green. 2-putt bogey. Not bad after the poor drive and stupid 2nd shot.
After that I started playing good golf again, even though I doubled the 3rd. No bad shots on 3rd, just bad luck.
Got up and down from bunker on 4th. Flopped from left of green to 2 feet on 5th for and up and down par as well.
Flopped after penalty to get up and down to save a bogey on 10th. (Thin 8 iron in found hazard.)
Best flop of the day came after a fat 7i off the par 3 15th tee into junk. Penalty, then re-teed and yanked 7i left of green down to the bottom of the side hill. Lying 3, I said to myself "I need to flop this close to save double. Or, you can just flop it in and save bogey." I decided to 'just' flop it in. No-putt bogey.
Really nice PW on 14th from 105 out in right fairway bunker to 15 feet and an almost birdie. Close, but settled for par
Two days in a row of very confident golf swings and decent scores.
Greens are nearly back to normal, which is helping my putting. Had only one 3-putt on 16th after GIR. Playing 420 yards, got on with driver, 8 iron. Hitting the ball well.
Found a little something that was helping me drive the ball more consistently yesterday and used it with success again today. Really making an effort to keep my head and upper body laterally stationary in the backswing and it is helping me draw the ball again off the tee. Hit some great drives, both yesterday and today as a result.
Hoping to keep this going.
