Great day. Played with Bernie, but also someone I have been looking forward to playing with, Matt, a 28 year old 7 handicapper who works at the club. John another WM employee, even younger and stronger also joined us. I was pumped to see how my game compared. Matt and I have talked so much about the games, but this is the first time I got to see him and he, me. I was focused. By the end of the day, not only did I show him I was for real, but he was too. We went head to head all day, while Bernie and John saw us both play some good golf on a very difficult course. One of the most satisfying rounds I've played in a while.
Matt dropped a bomb birdie putt on the 14th, then I put a 15 footer down on top of his for birdie.
Then on par 3 15th, playing 154, Bernie hit the green, John got his close, and then I put a 7 iron inside of both to 6 feet. Matt went over the green then chipped back on my line, but 6 feet further out than me. So I got a perfect read off his putt (which he missed) and dropped mine for back to back birdies. 3 birds in 5 holes. The harder Matt pushed me, the better I played.
I earned some respect from the younger guys today. I beat Matt by 3 strokes I think, John by 9 and Bernie by 12 and played to my potential. Could have even been better. Penalties on 12 and 18 both resulted in doubles. Rough caused me to make two extra strokes due to poor club choices, trying to be greedy, on 3rd and 12th. Otherwise, I had really good control of my game today.
