Played with Bernie. Cold. High 40s. Played the white tees due to the temperature. Walked the back nine first, then got a cart for the front nine. My back was uncomfortable after the first nine.
Put the new AP3 5,6 and 7 irons in the bag for the first time, but was not sure about them. Also, substitute driver shaft left me guessing. Was not confident at all with driver, so used 3W off the tee a lot again. AP3s did not react as AP2s do. May have to bend them to 1* up like the AP2s. Good distance with them, but no draw. Need to play and practice with them for more comfort.
Started with pars on the first 3 holes, with a sand save from the lower left bunker on 12, using my 54*, instead of my 58*. That's a few rounds in a row where I have used the 54 for a longer bunker shot with good results. Hit this one to about 8 feet with lots of spin. Stopped on a dime.
Had a couple good drives with the Aldila Rogue R shaft in my driver. One on 16 that kind of got under Bernie's skin I think. I went first and hit it good, but it was hard to see where it ended up. Then Bernie went and he felt he got all of his, driving it right down the center of the fairway. When we reached his ball, I could see the dismay in his eyes when he looked to see where mine was and realized I outdrove him by at least 50 yards, maybe more. I only had 98 yards left to the pin. I clocked that thing, but was complaining that it faded a little. That added to his dismay. Even so, I want a Diamana Blue 60 stiff back in my driver ASAP.
Had 3 or 4 realistic birdie putts, but could not convert any. Lipped two from under 10 feet and came up 2 inches short on another. Disappointing.
Without confidence in driver, hit 3W off a bunch of tees. Plus, no comfort yet with new 5, 6 and 7 irons. Had a decent round nonetheless, albeit from the whites.
