Rained most of the round, or spritzed the rest. No one out there. Played with Bernie again. Driver a little off but hit most fairways and all were playable. Just didn't seem to hit driver with authority today. Maybe some was the soft conditions and rain. Distance seemed 10 yards short all day.
My short game was spot on today. Got up and down a lot. Bernie kept remarking "There's that consistent short game again....and again." That's all well and good, but as nice as my short game play was today, it would have made me happier to just hit more greens. I think the wet conditions contributed to missing at least 3 or 4 greens today, as the wet rough (and fairways for that matter) grabbed a bunch of balls that would likely have rolled or bounded on in drier conditions. Was less than a yard short, long, right or left on 1, 4, 5, 9, 11,13, and 18. That could have easily been 7 more GIRs.
Had a great back going until a 3-putt on 16 for double and then on 17th, hit 21*H off the tee, electing to be short rather than long, but got unlucky and the ball plugged in the rough, just left of the green. Saw it land, but took a few minutes to find it, only about 5 yards from the pin, but plugged nearly 1/2 way into the ground. Bernie suggested I take it out, but I left it in the pitchmark and chopped at it to get it up and out. Worked, but didn't quite reach the green. Chip and 2-putt for back-to-back double. Neither of the doubles was poorly played.
Overall a decent round in some not so great conditions.
Need some birdies. Been a few rounds since I had one.
