What was working so well on Sunday evening off the tee, got me in a lot of trouble today, though had good distance, so I just have to figure out my set up. Missed 9 fairways. 8 were missed left. The 9th was missed right, but since it was a dogleg left and I hit it straight and long, it went through the fairway into the right rough. It was not really a bad drive at all. However, there were plenty of left misses which got me in trouble. Pull draw off the tee on 3rd put me deep in the woods, thankfully a lateral penalty not S&D. Didn't matter though, the rough was so thick and long where I had to drop that I was barely able to move the ball forward. That ended in double with esc scoring. Worse in actuality.
Left off the tee on 9th put me in deep thick rough, and again, hardly moved the ball out. Should have used wedge, but tried 5W and lost that battle. Another double.
On 12th hit a great drive in the fairway and then 6 iron on the money, dead at pin. Unfortunately, needed another foot of height. Hit just above the pot bunker and rolled back in. Got out in 1, but didn't get it on the green. Chip and 2 putt for another double.
Then on 16th, went so far left off the tee I was on the frontside of the 13th blue tee box, and again in deep thick rough. You'd think I'd have learned from my two previous long thick rough lies earlier where I tried to get out with 5W, but noooo, I had to try again. Same result. Moved the ball up to the front side of the black tee box on 13! Luckily this time the rough was lighter and I used an iron, but still missed the green to the left. Chip was 8 feet short. 2-putt double.
Rough got me too many times today. It was US Open length.
Lots of bogeys and only 7 pars. Disappointing round. However, worked on wrist pronation with all clubs and had better distance. Nice draws throughout the bag, but driver was getting pull draws. Need to work more on it.
