Gorgeous day. Played well. Driver was long, but used old 915D2, not new 917D2. So far, not hitting it as far as old one. My miss off the tee all day was left. Hit nice draws and a few hooks, but got great distance except on the one snap hook I had on 16th. I was still able to get pin high just left of green from there. If I could drive the ball like this every day, I might go back to playing the blue tees more often. I played a few extra holes after finishing my 18, all from the blue tees. No problem. Parred most. Hit comfortable clubs on approach.
On three of the four par 5s, I nearly reached in two. On the other one, the 9th hole, I only had a 5 iron in for my second shot, but I got it a touch fat and landed in the hazard, where I had to take a penalty, ending in bogey. But, on the 5th I had a 25 yard chipitch to 4 inches short (almost eagle) for a literal tap-in bird. On 13th after a great drive, hit 3W onto the run-up of the green, then chipped on close enough to make bird, but missed it. On 18th, I got a dirty look from the guys on the green when I got to my ball, 20 yards short of green. Pitched the perfect length, but 12 feet too far right. Again nearly made the putt for bird, but settled for par.
On 10th I hit another long drive leaving me about 80 yards to a back pin. Hit an easy sand wedge to 5 feet and made the birdie putt.
My added distance is paying off. I am doing something right. Hope it sticks.
Only poorly played hole was 2nd. Hit a real nice draw off the tee, well over the left fairway bunkers, but had a bit too much draw spin on it. Almost cleared all the hazard area on left, too, but it bounced just enough to the left that it settled inside the hazard line. I found it, but had no realistic swing or chance to move it much, so took the penalty and dropped. Unfortunately, the drop left my stance a bit lopsided and my 60 yard pitch came up short of the green. Chipped on and 2-putted for double.
Could have made a couple more up and downs, but short game is still in very good shape. No complaints.
Game overall is pretty good right now. Waiting for the bottom to drop out.
