Nice day. About 80 degrees, white cumulus against a deep blue sky. 5-10 mph wind. Near perfect.
Played okay. Hit some good drives. A couple birds. Happy.
Started on 2nd, as crew was top dressing the first green when I went to tee off. Finished on first.
Played a Srixon Z Star XV today, just to see how it performed. Not bad off the driver and irons, but not as good as a Pro V where it counts, around the green. Even so, not a bad ball at all.
Went over the green or was long more than a couple times today with full wedges and irons. On 2nd, hit a 50* gap wedge 5 yards longer than normal, and just off the back. Chipped to a few inches to save par.
On 3rd, laid up with 2nd shot. Had to play through a single looking for his ball in the high stuff around the green. Touch was off a bit as I tensed up with the added pressure of playing through and I came up about 5 yards short of the pin from 50 yards out, leaving me on the steep side in the rough, two yards short of the green. Extreme uphill chip went 6 feet past the pin. Missed the downhiller by a small amount to save bogey.
Approach ended in right bunker on 4th, 20 yards from pin. Made a real good long bunker shot to 4 feet and missed that par-saver.
Had a 3-putt bogey on 7th after hitting my 8i 10 yards long on approach, and all the way to the back of the green.
On 8th, hit same shot I did the other day when I almost aced it. Pin in the same area. Hit the backstop and it rolled back towards the pin, just like the last time. This time it ended a little farther away, but still close. Maybe 3 feet. Left me with a slider, but I made it for birdie.
On 13th, my drive caught the fairway bunker on the left, but jumped out by a couple feet, leaving me with a good lie in the rough. Had 265 according to the cart gps, to the front of the green. Hit a 3W clean and long (by my standards). When I got to the ball only had 30 yards to the front of the green on gps. 235 yard 3W. One of my better ones for sure. Had 55 yards to a back pin. Made a nice 1/2 swing pitch to about 7 feet and made the birdie putt.
On 16th, hit my best drive of the day, a perfect baby draw that went about 260 yards. Had 126 to pin. Hit a 9i to about 12 feet. Missed the bird on a lip out. Good par.
Parred 17 and 18 with GIRs. Then went and played the first hole which I had skipped when I started. Decent drive, but 5i approach wasn't great. Got the ball way too high on the clubface out of the rough right off the fairway. It only traveled about 140 yards, and came up well short of the green. Made a nice pitch, but missed the par-saver.
All my drives were playable, even the ones which ended up in fairway bunkers. And most drives were longer than average for me. But, I missed too many fairways, albeit not by much in most cases. None of the drives except for the one on the first hole, gave me any problems due to being in the rough.
Overall a decent round.
