Nice afternoon. 1/2-1 club wind at times. Not bad most of the time. Finally played with CeeBee (Chris) again. Rough start out the gate, but hit the ball well off the tee to get the round going. Bogied the first with a barely missed par-saver. Then on 2nd hit a great drive, over the bunker, but it must have bounced left after clearing the hazard, and into the crap. Had to take a penalty/drop, then shanked my 3rd. (Ouch!) Ended in a double. Hit some good shots after that over the front, but was not always rewarded with good scores.
Birdied 6th with a 7i to about 8 feet and made a good putt. Good drive on 7th with 54* wedge approach to 10 feet. Another just missed putt, settled for par. Then on 8th was not sure if I had enough club, into the wind. Probably overswung and got it fat as a result, making it into the 1st bunker on left, still 50 yards short of hole and all uphill. Somehow got it on the green from the bunker, a feat in itself, then 3-jacked for another double.
Then on 9th hit a nice drive and had 168 yards to the end of the fairway and about 183 yards to the end of the rough/beginning of the hazard. I hit a 7 iron hoping to sit somewhere near the end of the fairway. Hit it better than I can ever remember hitting a 7 iron, about 190 yards, into the hazard. Another penalty. 2 putt bogey. 44 on the front, due to only a couple bad shots. Had my work cut out for me on the back to make a decent score for the round. 4 birdies later, including a flop-in on 16, I had a chance to finish the back in record form. However, I let the pressure get to me and with only a 5 footer straight up hill to save par on 17, I pulled it. Then on 18 chipped it close again with about a 4-footer to save par and again, choked. Finished bogey bogey, with a 3-putt double on 12th and still shot even par on the back. Kicking myself over the two missed short putts on 17 and 18.
With 5 birdies on the day, my overall score of 80 was a little disappointing.
Felt bad for Chris. He had a rough day out there today. Not his usual stuff.
