Put my new 917 D2 driver in play today, but not right away. Started with my 915 and then hit the 917 as a test drive, playing the 915 drive all the way in. After a while, I started to get the hang of the new driver, so used it on the back nine as the primary driver. Still hit the 915 better, but had some real good ones with the 917. Neither was great today. Thankful the rest of my game was pretty good. Nearly aced the difficult uphill par 3 8th today. Hit it to 9 inches. 2nd bird of the day, which helped contribute to a 37 on the front.
Was a little more erratic on the back and ended up with a 41. Great drive on 10 leaving me on 60 yards to the pin, but I yanked it left of green and ended in bogey. Then on 10th a poor drive left me under a tree in high fescue with a low hanging branch directly in line with my shot. Punched a 5i about 100 yards, which nearly rolled up on the green, but instead rolled back down the left side approach area. Good chip, but again, missed the par saver.
A 3-putt on 12, and catching the lip of the left fairway bunker on 13 hurt too. Only choice to get out was with a wedge, as the ball was up against the lip. Hit a 3W almost onto the green, then made what seemed like a good pitchip, but it rolled about 7 feet past and I missed the par saver.
After playing so well on the front, I think I put too much pressure on myself to go low on the back. Overall, with a bunch of not great drives, I played and scored fairly well.
Need to work with the new driver more. And, make some setting changes. Maybe add the draw/fade weight instead of the neutral one in there now.
