Worthington closed for aeration, so Will and I headed over to Challendon. Wind was howling, at times gusting over 25mph. Tough day to play a course I've never played, but I played pretty damn well in that wind, with no idea where I should be positioning myself on many holes. Also was surprised to find bunkers in spots I did not realize they were. All that being said, was very happy with the day. And even more surprising, no 3 putts on the unfamiliar greens, and the wind was actually moving putts at times.
Drove the ball well in the wind. Only a couple drives were not great, but none got me in any trouble. Generally hit the ball well throughout the bag.
I will remember the 17th hole there for a long time. I think it is their signature hole. Par 5. To go for green in two you have to fly it over a large pond. Had 170 to the pin with wind howling. Figured wtf, I'll give it a shot. The wind wasn't against me, but it wasn't really helping either. Took an extra club. 4H. Hit it dead nuts, over the widest part of the lake, and landed it pin high, 12 feet right of the pin for an eagle putt. A bit of a slider, but read the break right. Just didn't hit it quite hard enough. Came up 6 inches short, but right on line. Damn. Easy birdie still felt good.
It was good to get out and play somewhere else. Course was in good shape, but a level below Worthington winter conditions. Still enjoyed it and will definitely play it again.
