Really nice day. Sunny, in the 50s, lighter wind than yesterday. Played with Will and Joey. Joe left after 9 and we hooked up with Jim and Vin for the back nine.
I did not have my stuff on the front. Made 2 or 3 bad iron shots. One skull and at least a couple fat ones. Driver wasn't right, but not terrible. Syncing was off a tick. There were no really bad drives, just a bunch of blah/acceptable drives and a couple good ones.
Drive on 1st left me down the hill below the left fw bunker. Hit what felt like a great 6i, worried it would be long, and it was 10 yards short of the green. Chip was nothing special, pissed me off and ended with bogey.
Then a great drive on 2nd left me an easy PW out in center of the fairway. Should have been all over that pin, but instead, skulled the damn thing somehow. Another bogey, even though my chip was pretty damn good, leaving me only about 5 feet. Unfortunately, it was 5 feet of sliding putt. Another bogey.
Best shot of the day was approach on 3rd after layup which went further right than it should have. Left me a long PW in. Hit it sweet and landed it 2 feet from pin, one hop forward, then a spin back to about 3 feet away. Saved par.
After that, and a nice 5i GIR on the 4th, I thought I had my irons back under control. But I then fatted 7i approach on 5th. Chip got me on but 3-putted for double. Didn't hit a good 6 iron off the tee on 6th and came up a little short of the green. Made a real nice chip, but missed the 3 1/2 foot par saver.
Nice birdie on 9th after landing in the fairway bunker off the tee for the 2nd day in a row. Hit a real good 6 iron out of the bunker, and a very good 7 iron in to 15 feet below the hole, around the same place I had my 2nd putt from yesterday, with the same exact pin location. Today I made the uphill putt using knowledge gleaned from yesterday's putt from the same area which did not break as much as I expected. Today, remembering that, I aimed 1 foot left and sunk it dead center.
After that, I felt better about my game and played a little better. Parred the first four holes on the back, with a nice up and down on 12. It's not often I can par both 3 and 12 in the same round. Can probably count those instances on one hand.
Two bogeys on back ruined a pretty decent back. Deserved bogey on 14th after ending up in fairway bunker and fatting PW well short of green. On 16th, made a nice recovery after driving ball way left up by 13th black tee box. Hit 7 iron onto green from there, but rolled through and into rough behind green. Made a real nice chip to about 4 feet and missed another short putt to save par.
Overall hit the ball with irons, hybrids and woods satisfactorily on the back. Driver could have been a bit better.
Shoulder got a little tender today. Icing now.
CeeBee says:Pars on 3 and 12. I tip my hat to you. Better yet, sign my hat. Tremendous.
