Hot. Very Hot. 95+. Went out at 4PM. Played the blues again after playing them yesterday with some success. Much tougher on my game, but forces me to use and get comfortable with my long clubs. That should only help in the long run.
Started with a 200 yard approach after going well right off the tee. Hit a very good 3W, but came up a touch short. Chip was a little yippy, but gave me a chance to save from 15. I missed. Bogey.
On 2nd, hit a good drive, but with my lack of distance, came up short of left bunkers, in left rough, 185 out. Another good 3W, uphill to pin high, but right of green high on mogul. Nice flop, but no way to stop it and it rolled to the bottom of steep green. Another 2-putt bogey.
The third hole killed me and it wasn't because I was playing from the blues. Drive was okay, but laid up with 4H, which I usually do anyway (only with 7i), right where I wanted to. Had an easy 85 yard SW to pin. Didn't realize the ground was quite soft there for some reason. We haven't had rain and the course is dry everywhere else. Maybe they were watering earlier, I don't know, but I chunked the wedge big time. Right into the hazard. Penalty. Pitch from hazard line to 10 feet, but missed bogey saver.
Things got better after that. Had some real nice birdie opportunities throughout the rest of the round, but only made one. GIR approaches to 12 feet on 7th with 7i, 7 feet on 9th with 9i, 6 feet on 10 (birdie) with 7i, and 7 feet on 11 with 6i. On tough 12th, hit approach into bottom of two bunkers alongside green. Tough uphill shot required to get over top bunker and onto green. Got the ball over the top bunker on my 3rd shot, but it rolled back into that bunker. Then a decent bunker shot to about 12 feet. Made the putt to make a great bogey save.
Tricky read on 13th green ended in a 3-putt from initial 18' distance. That hurt.
Very satisfied with entire game except driver today.
DougEly says:See no evidence of rain coming our way with the exception of a late afternoon pop-up thunderstorm. Forecast is for 97* today, humid and sun. 96, 94, 93....all week. Humid. First day under 90 looks like Sunday, forecast for 89. No rain.
Yes, thanks, not too bad from the blues, hopefully it won't translate to 89 from the whites next time I play. This game seems to work that way. Just when you think you are on a roll, the game will pull out your heart. Such a tease.

bkuehn1952 says:After you got warmed up, that was some really nice playing from #5 onward. We are sending some rain your way. We played in it today. Sort of refreshing to not have it 90+ and humid.
