Hot. 90s again. Played 27 actually, but the first nine was more of a practice nine to try out the new Cobra driver and compare it to my Titleist 915D2. Messed around with settings, hit multiple drives, approaches, etc. Didn't really keep score. After that nine decided to start over and play one driver and one ball and keep score.
Played the Titleist driver. Not sure I am comfortable with the Cobra. Started with good drives on the first 4 holes that didn't draw as I was planning, but all ended up in good shape with decent distance. On 5th I got it to turn over a bit, but ended in rough.
Overall, hit irons fairly well again. Putting was good, not great. Got onto 12 in regulation with 3W off tee, then 4W onto front of green. Pin was back. 3 Putt, but happy with the GIR. That is more than half the battle on 12th.
Trouble on 13 after a good drive that just trickled into rough on right. Thought I could get a 3W on it, but it was sitting just a touch too low for perfect contact. Got it low on the face and flew it only about 10 feet off the ground and left, into rough to backside of a mogul. Downhill lie made third shot more difficult. Hit it well, but right of target. Bad bounce to the right of the green, across the cart path and under the pine trees, sitting in pine needles. Actually hit a great low chipitch under the tree limbs, over the greenside bunker, onto the green, but with no backspin off the pine needles, it rolled into greenside rough. Chip and 2-putt for double. All as a result of the downhill lie I had for the approach shot. All it takes is one little thing to screw up a hole.
On par 3 15th, with back pin, hit an 8 iron to center of the green. Somehow that sucker spun all the way to the front leaving me a very long uphill lag. Came up way short, but luckily sunk the 10 footer for par. Went back to the original spot and tried the lag again. Of course, it went in. Player B is so much better than player A.
Not a bad round. Too hot though.
