After too long a lay off and with no energy due to this past hectic week in CT, I forced myself to go play a few holes, but really had little desire all day. Napped half the afternoon and finally got up enough energy around 5:30 to go to the course. Told Duran I was going to play a few holes, with no intention of doing more than nine and he just told me to take a cart and go.
My putting has been poor lately due to the fact that the greens are still not healed from the major aeration last month. Very bumpy...and sandy. Hard to feel confident over any putt. And fairway shots are starting to get in my head, as a result of the large aeration holes on them which showed up a couple weeks ago. The fairways are quite thin and far from the plush, cushy, carpet-like conditions as in November or even December. This further pisses me off since I have my Oxford Greens buddies coming next week and the course is in the worst condition it's been in since I joined the club. I realize this will eventually lead to great conditions, but right now, it is far from that. All of this had led in part to my uninspired play there lately. My shoulder issues have not helped either. Hopefully, this will all pass.
Hit only one draw today, on 16 which resulted in having a very short approach shot in. I didn't measure the drive, but the hole shows 398 from the white tees and I was smack dab in the middle of the fairway, 51 yards from the somewhat front pin. Hard to believe the drive could have been over 300 yards, but the math says it had to be close. I also did get the benefit of a cart-path bounce just left of the fairway, which I am sure added a good 40 yards to the result. But the bottom line is, a draw nearly always out performs a fade. Unfortunately, I hit too many slight fades today, while trying to draw the ball. Maybe that's why my shoulder hurts so much. My tempo is definitely off.
Only played 13 holes before dark. Started on 10th. Finished on 4th. Took ESC scores for holes 5-9.
