About 58*, slight overcast. Mostly lighter winds. Played with Ben, Mike and Richie. Keith played in the group ahead. We all got together afterward at Pies & Pints. Fun time.
Played okay, but had a few more errant shots today than Friday. Tempo was not as good. Still drove the ball fairly well. Was usually longest in the group. Been awhile since that has happened, but driver swing changes over winter seems to have made the difference. Being able to maintain it will be key.
Duffed an easy pitch on 10th which did not go over well with me. Then a weak chip to get on. Richie commented, "you don't see that very often from you." Mike agreed. I was steaming. Came back on 11th and outdrove the group with my 3W, which calmed me down a little. Parred it and the next few holes.
On par 5 17th, I hit another long drive, ahead of all others and a good 4W 2nd shot, but ball ended up bouncing right and out of fairway, up against a tree. Deep grass growing around the tree base caught my club as I came through the ball and I was barely able to get it halfway to the green. Then again, another weak chip left me still 4 feet off the green. I stood over it with my putter and thought, "You are a very good chipper. Why use a putter through the thick fairway grass? Just chip it in. You know you can." So I switched to the wedge, and chipped it in. Saved par. Satisfying.
Bunkers were in pretty bad shape after the winter and unfortunately, I ended up in 3 or 4. There was no consistency to them and I was never comfortable hitting the shot. Closest I got was about 8 feet on any bunker shot. Had too many question marks going off in my head standing over the ball in the bunkers today.
New wedges coming next week I hope.
