Another soggy day. 45 degrees or so. Thought better of trying the blues again, it was just as wet as yesterday. So played the shortened whites. It's a much easier game from there.
Finally birdied the 3rd, though it feels kinda cheap from the bumped up whites on that hole. Some whites were on the blue tee boxes and some were up on the red boxes. That one was up, which allowed me to drop a 7i to about 12 feet from the pin.
Driver was okay today, but nothing special. Got a couple real good ones. On 2nd I had only a 60 yard approach.
Was pretty good with my irons, though should have hit at least a couple more greens in regulation. Nice sand save on 1st from wet bunker to 4 feet. On 11 had only 80 yards to pin on approach. Hit a sand wedge pretty good, but surprisingly came up well short of green. Not sure why. Felt good. Right distance for SW. Maybe the cold...or maybe the contact felt better than it actually was. On par 5 13th, had only 9i and got it a touch fat, leaving me just short of green in the rough. 2-putt bogey. That's 3 easy approaches right there that should have been GIRs and weren't.
Played the back nine first. Only got in trouble on the 12th trying to hit my approach from a downhill lie. Got it fat and into wetlands, just barely. Was able to find it, but had to drop and take a penalty. I hate downhill lies. Then on the 9th hole (my 18th), laid up to a nice 9i distance for my approach. I was even par on my 2nd nine at this point. All I needed was a nice approach and 2-putt to stay even on my 2nd nine. Unfortunately, the ball was sitting on the fairway, but on another very downhill lie. Wouldn't you know it, just like with the earlier one on the 12th, I got it fat and put it into the wetlands in front of the green. I hate screwing up easy shots. This time, however, I played it from the hazard with a 60* wedge, onto the green, but a bit longer than I would have liked. 2-putted for bogey. Damn! I guess I can't complain too much. With everything cut down for winter, it gave me a chance to hit it out of the wetlands. If it were mid-season, I would have had to take a penalty.
Iced right shoulder as soon as I got home. This cold damp weather isn't good for it. Gets very sore very fast these days.
bkuehn1952 says:Nicely played. 100% on sand saves. 13 GIR. No matter how the course is set up, one has to hit the shots.

CeeBee says:Very well done. The course is soaked so it feels like 6000 yards anyway. This is how I see it. I wouldn't fret over those so called 'cheapened' white tees too much. You get many chances with short irons all winter with virtually no healthy hazards. Those tees moved back to the proper spots this spring will be plenty of challenge. I sense you feel the need to feed the ego and attack from the blues. Hybrids and woods all day on approach shots don't get it done. My friend, that will suck quick next season.
When we hook up you will have to give me 2 a side. I may get over there tomorrow about noon. You up for it?
