Overcast, high 50s-60, wet. Cart path only. Haven't played in a week. Expected some rust, but hit the ball fairly well. Played the whites again, which were up for winter. Blues are back pretty far on most tees, but may have to play them because the whites where they are seem to be too short. Another round in the 70s is making me think I'm better than I am. Had an eagle putt on 13 after hitting 4W on from 218 out. And most of my approach shots today were with 8i or less. On 3rd, where I am always hitting a wood or hybrid and usually coming up short, I hit 5 iron 15 yards over the green. Was pin high, but left of green on hillside on par 5 5th with Driver/4W. Flopped a 60 degree wedge shot right where I though it should go, but ball just continued to roll down the slope and past the pin by 10 feet. Missed the birdie putt.
Ended round with two bogies. Could have been better. On par 3 17th, hit 7 iron off the tee, pin high, but it drew a little more than I expected. Landed left of green, but above bunker. 60* chip landed as planned but rolled out further than I saw it in my head. 2-putt bogey. Had a great up and down bogey save on 18th. Put my 2nd (4W) shot into the 40-yard long, massive bunker, about 50 yards short of the pin. Decided to try and pick it clean with a 60*, but instead got too much sand and moved it from one end of the bunker to the other. Okay, so now I have a 25 yard bunker shot, uphill. This time due to the heaviness of the sand, decided an open faced high bounce 56* was the right club, but this time I got too much ball and flew it up and over the hill on the right side of the green. Now lying 4, I'm thinking double for sure, but when I saw it I just had a feeling I could pull off a good flop to the very downhill pin. Put it 18 inches from the cup for a tap-in bogey save. Good ending, albeit a bogey.
