Mid 60s. Slightly overcast. Very comfortable. Little wind.
No Doubles! Playing at OG over the past week helped to make Worthington seem a little easier today, I think. Hit some great drives, lots of nice irons and a bunch of greens. Putting could have been better. 3-3putts hurt. Started with lots of dew on them. Figured them out, then when they dried out, had to figure them out all over again. Skipped 8, 9 and 11 due to groups in front, but played those three holes at the finish. Had some trouble with iron distances, going long on a number of approach shots. The new irons seem to be averaging about 5 to 10 yards longer on clean strikes. Hit 9 iron 135 yards, but was expecting 125 on #11 approach. Off the back of the green. Hit 6 iron about 165 on 7th approach, but was playing it about 150 from the rough. All the way to the back of the green though the pin was up front. 3 putt. Really got to use the new irons more today on Worthington than I did at OG last week. Could really feel a difference from my 712s. Like them a lot.
The way this round started, I was feeling good about breaking 80, but just had too many 3 putts and small mistakes. Like, on 9th, par 5 after again hitting my lay-up long and into the hazard I was laying up from, had 85 yards to the pin from inside the hazard area in deep fescue, but still playable. Instead of swinging through nice and smoothly with my sand wedge, I hacked at it and moved it about 20 yards, still in the hazard. Then, this time swinging through and not at the ball, I easily hit it the right distance to the green. Just missed the par-saver and took bogey. Bottom line, with my old irons, I don't fly a 7 iron lay-up that far and into the hazard. Should have been an easy gap or pitching wedge approach from light rough instead of deep fescue inside the wetland hazard. The good news is, that 7 iron approach felt really sweet off that new AP2 716. Once I get used to the yardages, I am confident I'll hit more greens with them.
Got my locker/locker key assigned today. And WM member's bag tag.
DougEly says:Since they are now MY fairways, I hope you filled your divots! ;-)

I hacked up your fairways pretty deep today. Looked like beaver tails when I laid into it! ha.

bkuehn1952 says:Ha ha! Welcome "home". Hitting your irons too far ... a problem I wish I had. Your own locker?? This sounds like DougE's own little slice of golf heaven. Nice shooting and let's hope "El Nino" does us a favor for the next 4-5 months.
