Beautiful day. Near perfect. First round of Oxford Cup match play tournament. Keith and I played Ben and Richie. Keith and I both played pretty well. Won the match 3 and 1.
My game was better, though driver swing still weak at times. I even had issues with it on the range before the round. Could not get the ball to draw at all. Later on, after the round, went back to the range and worked on it until dark, to no avail. Time to speak with club pro.
One or two poor shots with irons/hybrids on top of 4 or 5 weak drives. Otherwise, I was somewhat content with the game I played, though didn't make many GIRs which is a little upsetting. Did get up-and-down a lot in less-than-full-swing situations. Greens were lightning fast. Estimated around 11.5 or 12. But, I liked them. Rolled fairly true. Had one pretty bouncy putt which robbed me of a stroke, but overall, they were good to putt on. Made six 1-putts. Only two 3-putts, and of those two the first was from about 60 feet away, diagonally down and thru the deep swale on 2nd green. Nearly an impossible putt. Went 7 feet by and missed the come-backer.
We were 4 up on 10th, when Keith's putt hit my ball which I had failed to mark, because it seemed to be well out of his path. Ben mentioned it should be a loss of hole penalty, so we agreed. We would have halved the hole. In any case, by accepting the loss of hole penalty, we avoided any controversy later, should the match come down to a close one.
It was a good day, a good match and a good time.
