Played with Ben. Keith joined us on the back. Cold and overcast. Ball went nowhere. Played extra club or more all round. Hit driver well. Mostly straight, but distance was short due to cold. Even on shots that felt really well hit, on the screws, they were still surprisingly short. Seemed at least 20 yards short.
Had four 3 putts today which really hurt an otherwise good round. Putts were not breaking as expected. Greens seemed very different. Putts that normally require playing for subtle break, were running straight. After awhile, you didn't know what to expect. Didn't putt poorly. Most putts went exactly where I aimed them. Just could not get used to putts not breaking where they normally do.
Also had some trouble with turf interaction today on many shots, particularly hybrids from the fairway. Hit 3 or 4 really bad hybrid shots as a result. Started to question things standing over the ball. Commitment was low. Even so, driver kept me in every hole. Chip-in bird on 10 didn't hurt either. Played the first 7 holes on the back pretty well. Then on 17th fatted a hybrid which hurt my chances to make GIR. Then thinned a hybrid on 18 which also ruined GIR chance. Luckily only ended with bogey on both. No worse.
Only double, on third today, should have been no worse than bogey. Came up short right of green on approach. Then chipped on with the intention of going right to avoid the front left gully. Didn't go far enough right. Ball rolled into gully and off the green, down the hill. Pitch up, but two-putt for double. With the exception of par on 2nd, rode the bogey train the whole front, three of which were 3-putt GIRs. Could have been a good score.
