Blazing fast round. Went out alone after work at 4:10. No one there. Flew! Was hoping to get in nine holes. Finished them by 5:15. Kept going. Had to quit after playing 16 holes due to darkness. ESC scoring used for 8 and 9. Started on back.
Driver still not working. Tried all sorts of fixes today to no avail. Hit only one or two satisfying drives. The only real good drive I hit didn't count. Hit a second drive on 6th after hitting the first one into fairway bunker from making poor contact off the heel. Though I played the first drive, I needed to try to figure out what I did wrong. Hit an awesome draw with 2nd drive, which ended up 15 yards short of green. Played first one out of bunker with 9 iron to about 8 feet from the pin. Missed the bird putt by inches.
Hit lots of greens in regulation today, but not enough fairways. Even so, was playable on all drives, though landed 6th in bunker. Iron play wasn't bad. Tried out new AP1 6i to go along with the AP1 5i I put in the bag a month or so back. Took the AP2 5i and 6i out....for now. Though I hate the look of the AP1s, they are certainly more forgiving. Hence my reason for the switch. On 2nd hole, hit new AP1 6 iron to 6 feet. Again, missed bird by 1/2 a roll.
Had two 3-putts on GIRs. That hurt. Only got up and down once today. Need to get back to practicing my chipping a couple times a week. (Thought that was what I was going to do today until I saw a completely empty golf course that I couldn't resist.) Tough now that sunset is so early. 6:08 today.
Back was sore again. Slight concerns about that now. Doesn't want to go away. It has seemed to coincide with my poor driver swing of late. I'm pretty sure there is a connection.
Best tee shot of day was probably on 15. Hit 3 hybrid off tee about 225 yards with roll. Left me about 135 out.
There was no single worst shot. But there were 2 equally poor shots from the rough with 5W. Drove the club into the ball with too much of a downward strike, driving the ball down into the rough. Both 5W results were less than 125 yards. Even so, 5W 2nd shot on 10th with the above issue still got me close enough to hit 7 iron onto green and then 2-putt for par. Same thing happened with 2nd shot on 17th from right rough. Left me with 198 to pin. 3H came up short. Couldn't get up and down. Bogey.
Considering how poorly I drove the ball, scored well.
