Mid-50s, mostly cloudy. Played with Ben. Twosome. We flew. Led off the shotgun start which started on holes 1-12. We teed off on 12th to start with no one in front of us. Caught the back of the field by the time we crossed over to the front nine. Things slowed a bit from there. Still finished within 3:15 and went out and played another 9 (shown on separate score card).
Played okay. Conditions were softer than they've been due to an inch of rain yesterday. Consequently, I started to get a little tentative on some of the softer lies and caught a couple slightly fat. Not mud-flying-everywhere fat, but fat enough to lose 20-30 yards on a 3H, or 10 yards on a 6 iron. And, with little roll out on the soft turf, another 10-20 yards off the driver. Had very few wedges in except on par 5s, and of course the 6th.
Drove the ball straight again all day, though not quite as long as earlier in the week due to the conditions. Made some nice up and downs, but not enough GIRs. Had a couple nice sand saves on15 and 18. Have started playing my wedges from the sand much better of late. I think my new, better shoulder turn has helped. Having new sand in the bunkers this season has likely contributed too. Had four 40-60 yard low pitch shots that I played with either 52* or PW and lots of spin. All checked up within three yards of pin. Got up and down on three.
On 11, fatted and popped up 4W off tee. Probably worst shot of day. Still hit fairway, but had 170 in. Hit hybrid from there (blind shot over hill) pretty well, but found the ball in left side bunker. Nice out to 6' but missed par saving putt that looked like it was going in all the way till it hit a sand pebble at the last second and turned it left. That would have been sweet after such a bad tee shot.
Game has been very consistent lately.
