Cool and overcast. 50s. Played with Keith and Ben. Started well. Par, par. Then hit 3 good shots on 3rd, but came up 5 yards short of green with a back pin. Pretty good chipitch but couldn't convert. Then a bit of trouble on 4. Hit it high on the right side hill. Had an opening through the trees and hit what looked like a perfect 3H off the dirt, but it just nicked a tree and bounced left to the fairway, still 70 yards short. Hit good 60* wedge to 14 ft., but missed par saving putt. Bogey. Then game got in gear again. Parred 5, parred 6, parred 7. Then on 8 hit great drive, decent 3H and finally had 132 to pin, slightly uphill. It was cold so pulled 8 iron. Had an awkward stance partially in fwy bunker with ball well above my feet on the bank of the bunker. I needed to choke way down as a result, so thought, maybe I should go up a club. Put back the 8 and pulled a 7. Then hit it flush, right over the pin, through the green and down the hill, 20 yards from the back edge. The 8 iron I originally had in my hands was the right club. Pitched on, but 3 putted for double. Played the back well too. 4 pars to start. Then on 14 hit a weak drive and needed 3H to get home. Thought I hit it pretty good but the breeze knocked it down a few yards and it ended landing in the right bunker. Had about 40 yards to the back pin. Got it a little too fat and didn't quite reach the green. Chipped to about 10 feet, but 2 putted for double. On 15, lost the drive right, into woods. Wasn't sure if it was OB, lateral hazard or in play if you can find it. So, elected to hit provisional tee shot. Hit it perfectly. Found the original in the woods, but had what I thought was no playable option. So played the provisional. However, after the hole, realized there were some red stakes and I could have taken a drop where it crossed the hazard line which would have had me lying 2 after the penalty, hitting three, instead of hitting four with the provisional. In any case, Hit provisional just short of fringe. Got up and down for a par with the provisional, plus s&d penalty, got me a good double. Had I played the original instead of the provisional, I quite likely could have saved bogey. Oh well. Two doubles in a row really hurt an otherwise good round.
Hit lots of GIRs and fairways today. Happy with my play.
