Gorgeous day. The course was packed. Got out at 1:30. Didn't finish till 7:15. Long round. Actually played with two women Rose and Kasey, who were not very good, but they did not play that slow. And they were fun, so I wasn't upset about playing with them. The back up was 6 or 7 groups ahead of us, according to the ranger.
Greens had dried out in the sunny warm weather and were extremely fast. Even though I played last night, I was thrown off to start the round by the speed of the greens. By the time we got to the back nine, it was more typical of the time of day I usually play, and as a result, I got my familiarity of the greens back and putted better. Though I had no 3-putts on the front, I had many 2-putts that should have been 1-putts. Drove the ball very well again. Had a very good back nine, but still think I left a few strokes out there. Certainly I left 3 or 4 out there on the front. It was hard to get into a good rhythm with the wait so long and my playing partners taking sometimes 5 or 6 strokes to get to the green. Many times, I hit great drives, then waited for each of them to hit 3 or 4 shots before it was my turn to finally play my 2nd.
A lot of great drives today, the best was probably an approximately 275 yarder on 14. One of my best in recent memory. Best shot of day was a 5H on 9 off the tee to 9 feet. Great putt on 13 from about 65 feet to 4 ft. Made par. Then birdied 14 with the aforementioned great drive and a low flighted 8 iron with tons of backspin to 14 feet. Then a perfect putt to make the bird.
3-putt on 18 was the only 3-putt of the day. At least I got there in 2 for another GIR.
A good day, but way too long for 18 holes. Hope to play tomorrow, on Mother's day. Maybe there will be a lot of Mom visiting and not so much golfing.
