Great course, good weather, but played terribly. Worst round I can remember. The course didn't eat me up. My game fell apart. Only my driver worked today. Not even my always dependable short game was there for me today. We started on the back. Hit a great drive, well down the fairway. Then a hybrid dead at the pin, onto green from 190 out. 2-putt for par. Good start, yes, but other than a few other decent holes, the round was in the crapper all day. I topped a hybrid, chunk 4 or 5 pitches from less than 50 yards, chunked a couple PWs, pulled a few off side hill lies way off line and even blew simple chips. The more it happened, the more it happened. It all started in our 3rd hole, which was the par 5 12th. Hit a nice drive, but caught a fairway bunker on the right. I was cocky after playing the first 8 or 9 shots of the round without much trouble. Thought I could get a hybrid over the lip and make some big gains down the fairway. NOPE! Smashed it right into the lip instead, and it somehow trickled out about 10 yards from the bunker. All pissed at that, then proceeded to TOP the next shot with my hybrid and hit it another 30 yards, at that. On the 14th, still shaking from the catastrophe on 12, my mind somehow wondered to the worst cast scenario, and that idea stuck. I swung and barely hit the ball 2 feet off the ground, 100 yards, way left. It would have been laughable...if it was somebody else. My confidence was now shot. Thankfully, that drive was an anomoly and the rest of the round I hit the ball off the tee fairly well. But NOTHING else worked all day. Disappointing for such a nice course. I felt I could have scored MUCH better if my average game came with me to the course. Unfortunately, I left it on the range. I had a fantastic range session, hitting 100 balls or so, without missing one badly, at all. I was dead on with every iron in the bag and even hit my 3W well. I was so excited to take that to the course, that I guess I just forgot to do so. Whay does that happen?
