Breezy, about 71 or 72 degrees. Another nice course. Glad I played it. Went out single, about 1 pm. Played okay out front. No doubles anyway. Caught up with the first group on 5 or 6. Got in front of them at the turn when they went inside for food. Unfortunately, caught the next foursome on the 11th. They waved me up when I was 210 yards out and they were on the green. Hit a beautiful 3H, perfectly straight, but never expected to hit it that clean from the short rough. Consequently it landed mid-green and bounced over. Had a nice chip up while they waited, but missed an easy putt. Wasn't too bad a showing while rushing to get out of their way. Two holes later, pulled up to the tee of a 150 yard par 3. Foursome on the green again called me up. They all stepped to the edge of the green while I hit 7 iron off the tee..... to 8 ft! Even better, after receiving props for that shot as I stepped on to the green, I then proceeded to drop the putt for bird! They were quite impressed. (Hell, so was I!) Unfortunately, ran into some trouble over the next few holes. Put myself in a tough spot to make the green in reg on the next hole. Had to punch out with a 5 iron. Actually, it was a pretty good save, but still made bogey. Then drove into lateral hazard on next hole. Penalty (there were many this round) hurt, not to mention an aggressive short pitch which ended up just off the back fringe. Chipped to 4 ft. and 1-putted to save double. Another penalty on 17 after a very nice drive. Hit 6iron into the wind and it got pushed just a little right...into water at edge of green. Chipped long again, and just off fringe, then a great chip to 6" to save double again. 18th was a long par 5 dead into the wind. It was playing close to 600 yards when factoring in the strong breeze. Hit a good drive, then a short 3H. Came up short on another hybrid shot by over 100 yards. Wind was ripping at this time. Finally hit a PW about 115 to 10 yards past the pin. Two-putted for bogey to end it.
Was striking irons better today. Went back to my old S&T thought of keeping more weight over the front foot, and it proved to be the ticket. Hit my irons better today than any other day on this trip. Wish I tried it sooner.
