Great start. After hitting tee shot a bit right into some trees and high fescue, blasted a perfect 4 hybrid 185 yards out of fescue, between 3 trees and onto green, 9 feet from pin. Barely missed birdie putt which lipped out to 2 feet. Great par save. Played 2 and 3 okay, then hit nice drive on 4 to 60 yrds. Pulled 60* into bunker, but got up and down from the bunker with a nice 60* sand shot to 7 ft. Nice 1-putt to save par. After good drive and good 3W second shot on the par 5 5th, came up short of green with what looked like a perfect 8 iron, but ball checked with no release. Even so, made another up & down with a 52* 30-yard pitch to 4 ft.
Played 6th poorly. Only bad hole on front 9. Started back with a 5-iron snap hook off the tee which ended up under a bush. Took an unplayable penalty then put the ball on the green with a 60* wedge shot from about 50 yards. Released to 24 ft from pin, but made the putt. Longest made putt of the day, though missed two longer ones by an inch on 7 and 9.
Broke down a bit on the back 9. Couldn't seem to keep the driver straight. Got me in a couple tough situations. Tripled 15 after a decent drive that went right a little, leaving me no shot other than only one small landing area on the other side of the water hazard. Hit a perfect 7i to that spot, but had a tough lie for the next shot, a 52* full wedge, which I chucked trying to dig out of the rough. Then came up short on the fourth shot by a couple yards. Chipped on, but long, then 2-putted for 7. Ouch.
On par 5 16th, hit another snap hook off the tee over to the center of the 11th fairway. Then caught a 3w thin and moved the ball about 150 yards up near the 11th tee, alongside a lateral water hazard. Then hit a weak 8 iron back over to the 16th fairway, but was still 60 yards short of the pin. Hit a 60* wedge to 4 ft. 1-putted to save par.
All in all, not a bad round with the exception of a couple holes.
