48 degrees, cloudy with a 20 mph wind. Perfect.
Course was waterlogged after 36 hours of rain. Fairways gave you no roll in most cases. Lot of mud balls. Greens were smooth and moderately quick. Soft so you could hold a green without much effort.
I am really content. There were very few players when I showed up at 2:30. No carts because of the soft conditions so a lot of people stayed away. After #5 I could see a log jam of a 2 ball, followed by a 4 ball and then a single. The single was not pushing the 4 ball. What to do! I jumped to #9, skipping 6,7,8. There is a long walk to #10 from #9 and as I trucked along I decided if I shot 40 or better on the back nine I would hike back to #6 and play those three holes . If I shot 41+, I would go home. Almost doubled #10 but made a nice 6 footer to save bogey. The 3 putt at #12 was a disaster. After #13 I was 3 over and really needed to settle down, which I did until #17. I was a bit too loose with the tee shot and ended up right of the green. A marginal chip left me 6 feet away and my par putt did a 180 lip out. Now I was going to need to par #18. A mediocre tee shot was followed by a nice 3 wood to maybe 5 yards off the green. Do or die time. I made a big swing flop shot and got the ball within 6 feet but with a pretty good break. Panic time. Okay, just hit the damn putt on your line and we either go home or hike back to #6. In it went and off to #6. Played the final 3 holes in one under and went home at 5:15 a content golfer.
