Day 2 - Ann Arbor City Senior Championship
In the 1st Flight - missed the Championship Flight by 2 strokes. Finished tied for 3rd in the Flight.
My best competitive round in a while. Hit the driver well and struck my irons crisply. Short game was acceptable and putting was okay.
My one double was an unforced error. Drove the ball in the fairway, laid up to perfect spot for approach but was in a shallow divot in area of packed down dirt (in the center of the fairway!) Dug it out well but I should have anticipated a pull because of the effort to get down and through the ball. At any rate, I pulled it into some healthy rough, pitched long, made a great lag to 3 feet and then missed the bogey putt.
Coming down the stretch I had four consecutive birdie attempts from 8-15 feet on 14-17 but failed to convert any of them. I wonder if subconsciously I was satisfied with how my round was likely to turn out and couldn't focus in on making those putts. I "wanted" to make the putts but didn't "need" to make them.
Finished tied for 9th out of 98 on a gross basis.
