jazopa - 6/11/24 While the classic rainbow is the most well-known, there are several types of rainbows that can occur under different conditions:
Primary Rainbow: This is the most common type and consists of a single, bright arc with red on the outer part and violet on the inner part. Magicexhibit.org
Secondary Rainbow: Occasionally, a second, fainter rainbow appears outside the primary arc. This secondary rainbow has its colors reversed, with red on the inner side and violet on the outer side, caused by a double reflection of sunlight inside the water droplets.
Supernumerary Rainbows: These are faint, closely spaced rainbows that appear just inside the primary rainbow. They are caused by the interference of light waves.
Fogbows: These rainbows appear in fog rather than rain. They are usually white with faint colors because the water droplets in fog are much smaller than raindrops.
Moonbows: These are rare rainbows that occur at night, illuminated by the light of the moon rather than the sun.
