Timberton opened in 1991 with a design by former PGA Tour player-turned-architect Mark McCumber. Timberton is usually ranked among the top ten courses in Mississippi and is also well-regarded by Golf Digest, GolfWeek, and Zagat's. The club has hosted the Mississippi State Open, two Mississippi Men's Amateur championships, and a variety of USGA and PGA qualifying events.

The standard daily visitor rates are $49 on Mondays through Thursdays, then $59 on Fridays, weekends, and bank holidays. Memberships are also available.
