I have been to Mauritius for 4 of the past 5 years and played the 2 courses at Belle Mare Plage every time. The Links is the easier course though still a stiff challenge. You have to take a buggy but it is probably too far to walk as it is some distance between greens and the next tee. The staff are really friendly and the course is always in great condition. The greens are excellent, but do have a little grain. The large blocks of granite aren't forgiving and balls will disappear into it more often than not.
Golfing heaven as far as I am concerned
The legends is a lot tougher than the Links and hosts the Annual Mauritius Open and now the Seniors open. Quite tight fairways, lots of water and some very lush vegetation. No nasty animals or snakes on the island just the occasional deer to encounter and quite a few friendly lizards.
If you play well the Legends is a good challenge, if you're playing badly you'll loose loads of balls. The greens are grainier than on the Links, and hiring a caddy is very strongly recommended.
