SCGC is located on the cliffs above Dunedin's picturesque Saint Clair Beach, offering views of the city and the rugged southern coastline. They hosted their first national event in 1967 when the Freyberg Rosebowl team championship was played here, then hosted the Otago Charity Classic for nine years, and the 1979 New Zealand Open. They still host the annual Dunedin Amateur Stroke-play Championship played in February.

The non-affiliated rate here is NZ$50. Members have reciprocal privileges at 16 courses in NZ, Australia, and England.
